Vitel Lawes, 19, takes three wickets in one maiden over in the CPL

Searches for cricket wickets climbed in India after a striking piece of bowling in the Caribbean Premier League. On 29 August 2026, in the 20th match of the season between the Trinbago Knight Riders and the Jamaica Kingsmen at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, 19-year-old spinner Vitel Lawes bowled an over in which he conceded nothing and took three wickets.

Lawes, a left-arm wristspinner, removed Colin Munro, Kieron Pollard and Matthew Tromp within the same over. He finished with figures of three wickets for 29 runs from his four overs, the best return of his Twenty20 career so far, and was named player of the match. The Kingsmen went on to win a rain-affected game by seven runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

The performance drew attention partly because of how early it has come in Lawes's career. He was fast-tracked into West Indies selection at a young age, and had been listed before the tournament as one of the players to watch. A wicket-maiden is uncommon in Twenty20 cricket, and three wickets in a single scoreless over is rarer still, which is why the clip travelled quickly among cricket followers in India.
