WhatsApp is building a warning for unofficial WhatsApp Web clients
Spotted in an Android beta build. It is still under development and is not switched on for testers yet.
WhatsApp appears to be working on an alert that tells you when your account has been linked through something other than the official WhatsApp Web. WABetaInfo reported the alert after finding it in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.35.1, and says it shows up on the Linked devices screen, where you manage every device connected to your account.
The point is simple. A third-party web client, or a browser extension that wraps WhatsApp Web inside its own interface, sits between your phone and WhatsApp's servers. WhatsApp cannot see how such a tool handles your messages or contacts. The official client is the web page at web.whatsapp.com in a normal browser, or the desktop app from WhatsApp's own site. If what you are using is neither of those, this alert is meant to say so.
Status: in beta testing, and early even by that standard. WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is already detecting unofficial clients in the background, but the warning itself has not been enabled for beta testers and no release date has been given. Features at this stage can change or be dropped before reaching anyone.
