Are you a guide or a tape recorder?
Being on a spiritual path, you often acquire the tendency to preach. Being with the master, listening/reading His Knowledge, you feel, yes, now I know it all. Then starts the process of preaching. Just observe yourself. While speaking to others, do you feel an urge to showcase your knowledge every now and then. If yes, make sure you are not a tape recorder!
A tape recorder is nothing but the one who records whatever it listens/comes across. And it waits. It waits for opportunities when it can hit the play button. And what happens when it hits the play button? Whatever it had recorded, it just blabbers the same thing. Don't be a tape recorder. Don't just record and play whatever you read/listen. Be a guide!
One who is in Knowledge, won't wait for opportunities to showcase what he has learnt. He will just smile and listen to you. One who is in Knowledge won't correct you, if you speak something wrong. He will just smile at whatever you say. Only when you ask, Is this right? That is the only time He will speak... as a guide.
How to know if I am a tape recorder or guide?
Observe yourself. A tape recorder always has a point to prove. Since it has recorded it.. It feels, I have the proof.. I am right. Do you have a tendency to correct someone almost everytime, you speak to someone... explaining no its not like that.. its this way! OR This is the right way.. My way is the right way. Do you wait for opportunities to showcase how much you have learnt. Do you feel, you know it all?
It is very easy to detect who is a tape recorder and who is a guide. A tape recorder will always debate with knowledge - Ohh this is not how it is.. this is the right way. Tape recorder has recorded few stuffs and has concluded that there is only one right way.. because that is the only way he knows.. since he recorded only that. Guide is the one who is aware.. this way or that way.. either way is right..
A tape recorder has got their expert comments ready on almost everything. No one would ask to comment, but still they will.. because they wait for opportunities. A guide just relaxes and smiles at what is happening around.
A tape recorder is easily off-centered... because it only records the knowledge.. doesn't imbibe it. It doesn't record and listen to it.. It records and plays for others.
A tape recorder is a character. A guide is a witness (audience).
But Guruji says, whenever you speak.. speak Knowledge.. so is it wrong being a tape recorder?
What is Knowledge? Does it mean the Knowledge Sheets you read, or Knowledge Videos you listen to? Knowledge is nothing but being 100% relaxed. Just being 100% with yourself.. completely at ease. A state where you are 100% aware of yourself. When you are 100% at ease with yourself, completely relaxed.. you will automatically speak the right things, and that too, only when required!
Is it wrong being a tape recorder?
A tape recorder is nothing but a stage. Almost everyone goes through this stage. Many are also unaware that they are in this stage. So you just need to be aware of this and progress.. progress to the next stage to become a guide. If you become/remain a tape recorder, it may so appear that you are helping people around you, but in the long run, you yourself have learnt nothing. It is said that ask only them who knows the answer. No use asking a tape recorder, because they can only help you with things they have recorded, nothing beyond.
How do I progress to the next stage of becoming a guide?
First step is relaxation. Be at complete ease with yourself. When you are completely at ease, your awareness automatically increases. You are aware of every small tendency that happens inside you. Then any situation around you appears in a completely different perspective. Whatever you read/learn, just go to the depth of that knowledge. Just be with it. Spend time with yourself.
How do I know if I have become a guide, and no more a tape recorder?
When you observe that the 'play' button is hit only when it is asked to.
