Feedback on Revolution 2020 (Chetan Bhagat)

Story Synopsis: Once upon a time, in small-town India, there lived two intelligent boys.
One wanted to use his intelligence to make money.
One wanted to use his intelligence to create a revolution.
The problem was, they both loved the same girl.
Welcome to Revolution 2020. A story about childhood friends Gopal, Raghav and Aarti who struggle to find success and love in Varanasi. However, it isn’t easy to achieve this in an unfair society that rewards the corrupt. As Gopal gives in to the system, and Raghav fights it, who will win?

My Review: I have never ever read a Fictional book before. I was casually browsing through Chetan Bhagat's website yesterday, and saw that his latest book released last Oct. I asked my sis, if she has this book R2020. She said Yes! I told her, I want to read it. I started reading this book at about 12 in the afternoon, and finished it reading at 2.15 in the night.

Its such a fantastic book. Not even once did I felt bored. Its so engrossing! Each and every page, I enjoyed a lot! Moments, when I felt sad, laughed, giggled, because some incidents we can actually connect with our own life. Like the chat conversations between Gopal and Aarti.

Also, the small small details, Gopal's dad didn't have a tooth etc. actually made a clear image in front of me. Perhaps this is what the motive of an author is; to create an image for the readers.

Super awesome book!

Frankly, If i get to meet 'Gopal', I would say He is a good person alright (since no person is bad as such, is what I feel). but I felt his love for Aarti was not unconditional, its not true love. I beg to differ when Gopal says, add up the devotion of all the swamiji's in varanasi, that much I love 'Aarti'. I don't buy that. Reason is, I observed 'Gopal's' character. He liked Aarti alright but at the same time he felt attracted towards her, physically. He used to watch porn too. Somewhere, he wanted to have a physical relationship with Aarti; which was always going on in his mind. Sadly, Raghav was too busy, to give time to Aarti, which perhaps kept Aarti looking for that love (which she mistook it as physical relationship). So she gave in. I was sad, when Aarti had physical relationship with Gopal, that too twice! I didn't feel like blaming anyone, but the whole thing could had been avoided. Reason I felt Gopal's love is not true is because till he didn't have sex with Aarti he wanted her. The 1st time they had sex, he was not happy, coz there was some awkwardness - as he said your body was there, but your soul wasn't. The 2nd time they had sex, Aarti was more willing, so Gopal had what he wanted. Since he got what he wanted, he now got time to think, what is right and what is not. Before this his mind was pre-occupied with wanting her physically. Now that its over, his mind is free enough to think about what is right and what is wrong. So suddenly, Gopal now wants to become a hero. He plans things in such a way that he is a hero (giving Raghav his job back, letting Aarti go to Raghav). Perhaps that is why he still needs an assurance from everyone that he is a good guy.

Now these are completely my views. I am not saying Gopal is a bad guy, or he is a good guy. My point is, Gopal thinks his love for Aarti was 'true', then no, its not. If his love for her was true, He wouldn't even think of having physical relationship with her. He knew very well what the problem was. Gopal could had easily spoken to Raghav to give more time to Aarti, at the very beginning, and this could had sorted the issue then and there. Atleast I would had done this. But Gopal chose, not to tell Raghav.

Again, I won't say I hated the above mentioned part in the book. Infact, I could connect so much with the Gopal's character. But if someone loves somebody unconditionally, he doesn't want anything from the opposite person, he just wants to give, is what I feel. If Aarti was my best friend, I would had sacrificed my love for Raghav at the very beginning!

Also, one thing that I felt could had made a better impact was the 'Revolution idea'. Perhaps the idea of Raghav to create a revolution in India, starting from Varanasi, was lost in the love triangle of the main characters. Nonetheless, its still an entertaining book.

I would recommend this book to each and everyone. Such a fantastic book. Nothing less than a 10/10. Hats off to Chetan!! :)
