Healthy critics

Reflections

No matter what you do or don't do, there will always be a group of people who support you and a group of people who criticize you.

The important thing is to recognize what you are being criticized about.

An insecure person will always criticize you for something they are good at and will pinpoint only those qualities where they have excelled.

For example: If you are good at playing badminton, someone might criticize you for not being good at playing cricket, just because that person is good at cricket. Or if you have a good physique, you will be criticized for not having strong forearms, just because that person may have strong forearms.

We often have this tendency to look down upon those who are below us in some areas.

For example: A person who has lost weight will pinpoint and keep advising others on how obese they are.

The important thing as a receiver (of criticism) is to have the skill to determine if the criticism received has come from someone's insecurity or with the intention of improvement and belongingness.

The important thing as a giver (of criticism) is to ensure that you first praise the person for what they have achieved, followed by criticism if it is absolutely necessary.
