Karma doesn’t spare anyone

Reflections

In today’s world, many people justify harmful habits with lines like:

“It’s not harming me.”

“I love the taste.”

“My body needs it.”

“Everything in my life is going great, so what’s the problem?”

These statements are often made by those who:

– Eat non-vegetarian food

– Drink alcohol or indulge in intoxicants

– Are trapped in addictions like pornography or compulsive sexual habits

And yet, they claim to be successful, healthy, or spiritually unaffected.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth: Just because you’re enjoying life now doesn’t mean you’re not paving the road to your downfall. To understand this better, you must know the three types of karma: Prārabdha, Sanchita, and Āgāmi.

1. Prārabdha Karma – The Spent Bullet Still Flying

Prārabdha is the portion of your accumulated karma that has already started giving fruit. It’s like a bullet that’s already been fired — it must complete its trajectory.

So yes, you may be doing “great” in life — enjoying success, good health, or fame — but that’s the result of your past good actions, not a green signal for your current misdeeds.

It’s like having a big fixed deposit from your ancestors: you’re withdrawing and celebrating, without realizing that you’re not replenishing it!

2. Sanchita Karma – The Hidden Reservoir

This is the entire backlog of your karma — all your past actions across countless lifetimes. It stays dormant, but life after life, portions of it become active (Prārabdha) based on what you need to experience.

You don’t even know what’s in there — a volcano or a garden. That’s why wisdom lies in not adding more filth to it. Yet, people continue with arrogance, saying, “I drink, I smoke, I eat meat, and I’m doing fine.”

3. Āgāmi Karma – What You’re Doing Right Now

The karma you’re creating through your present actions, thoughts, and choices.

Every drink you take, every animal you consume, every lustful indulgence, every time you harm a living being (even knowingly harming yourself) — you’re creating powerful negative karma. That’s Āgāmi, and guess what? It gets stored in your Sanchita. And when it matures? You will eventually have to bear it's fruits.

But Why Do “Bad” People Still Do Well?

This is a common question:

“He eats meat, drinks every weekend, womanizes, and still earns crores! God must be unfair.”

No — karma is not blind. It’s just extremely precise.

That person is enjoying the fruits of his Prārabdha – past good actions now bearing fruit. But his current Āgāmi karma is setting him up for deep suffering ahead. There is no escape.

Being good & doing good:

When we say “be good and do good,” it’s not some moral slogan.

It’s a shield.

To “be good” means to not intentionally harm any living being — not animals, not humans, not even yourself.

And no, this is not about plants. People love that deflection:

“Aren’t plants (vegetarian food) living beings too?”

Yes, but they do not have developed minds or karmic individuality like animals and humans do. Scriptures draw clear lines — harming creatures that have a mind, pain response, and karmic individuality invites karmic backlash. That includes the chicken on your plate, and the fish you fry.

Start Now. Or Pay Later.

Every bite of meat, every sip of alcohol, every indulgence in destructive craving — even if done with a smile and a joke — becomes a silent karmic entry that you will have to repay. No escape. No excuse.

You may not see the punishment today.

You may not even see it in this lifetime.

But karma doesn’t forget. It waits. And it always collects.

Final Word: If you’re alive, you still have time.

Break the cycle of ignorance. Choose conscious living. Protect your karma like you protect your bank account — because when karma collapses, no insurance, money, or excuse can save you.
